A Tennessee pair were arrested on child abuse charges after authorities learned they locked a 7-year-old autistic child in a storage trunk inside their disgusting, feces-covered home.
Mikki Dee Moody, 36, and Sean David Moody, 39, were charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect and child endangerment after investigators searched their Elizabethton home for an unrelated case on Thursday, WCYB reported.
After arriving at the home and meeting both Mikki and Sean Moody, as well as the 7-year-old child, investigators learned the child has autism and is non-verbal, according to the report.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation took Sean David Moody into custody on a warrant charging him with abuse of a vulnerable adult.
Investigators conducted a search warrant of the house and discovered unsanitary living conditions that included wall outlets containing exposed wiring and animal and human feces on the floor, according to the report.
A storage trunk containing urine-soaked blankets, a pillow, and a half-eaten pizza as well as “clothing that contains a substance consistent with blood” was found in the living room, the sheriff’s office said.
According to investigators, the child would be locked in the storage trunk with food.
Both Mikki and Sean Moody were booked into the Carter County Detention Center Thursday.
Mikki Moody was released from custody after posting a $75,000 bond.
