Canadian wildfire smoke drifts into Tri-State area, bringing hazy conditions

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires returned to the Big Apple, bringing hazy conditions to the region Wednesday, forecasters said.

Light smoke could be seen in parts of New Jersey and New York City Wednesday morning as smoke from wildfires burning up in parts of Canada drifts south, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds blowing from the north “may draw in smoke in the mid- and upper-levels [of the atmosphere] from wildfires in Canada, potentially resulting in a bit of hazy conditions,” the agency’s New Jersey office noted in a statement, according to NJ.com.

“But the extent to which this occurs is uncertain,” the office added.

The weather service’s New York office — covering all five boroughs, Long Island and parts of Connecticut and northern New Jersey — said the hazy conditions would likely last several days.
